Work-purpose balance is a concept that refers to the alignment between one’s work and their sense of purpose in life. Commonly known as entering the state of flow, this is when you find your work meaningful. This state of being compliments your core values, and tends to leave you energized. Consequently, this is how you end up turning passive ideas into hobbies and even a book.

No man nor woman is an island. The Financial Griot team talks about this and more with special guest, Deborah Napoleon [Instagram: @Msdebbiekidscorner]. Mrs. Napoleon is the author of Dusty and Daddy’s Digraph Discoveries. Seeing the absence of Black fathers in books and media was so concerning that she did something about it.

The book (which is part of a series) is engaging while depicting a dynamic relationship between a father and a son. It’s also designed to appeal to young readers, with vibrant illustrations. Dusty and his Dad are a welcome addition to the world of Reading and Phonics. Looking forward to seeing their journey.

We highly recommend picking this up for your loved one.

How to improve your relationship with your purpose to be in balance

If you are looking to improve your work-purpose balance, there are a few things that you can do. First, take some time to reflect on what is important to you in life. What are your values? What are your passions? Once you have a better understanding of what is important to you, you can start to look for ways to incorporate those things into your work.

Second, connect with your work and your colleagues. Make an effort to get to know the people you work with and the work that you do. The more connected you feel to your work, the more likely you are to find meaning in it.

Finally, don’t be afraid to make changes to your work or your life if you are not feeling fulfilled.

If you are not happy with your work, there are other options available to you. Seek a new job or a fresh start. Consider a new hobby or make an old hobby into a side hustle. If profitable, turn it into your own business, or pursue a different career path.

There is a purpose outside of work. You can spend more time with loved ones, read or become inquisitive. Some end up volunteering more or learning something new about themselves beyond their 9-5.

Work-purpose balance is an important part of a happy and fulfilling life. By taking some time to reflect on what is important to you and taking steps to connect with your work and your colleagues, you can improve your work-purpose balance and live a more meaningful life.

Redefining Work-Life Balance with a few Wellness tips:

  • Set boundaries. It is important to set boundaries between your work and personal life. This means not checking work emails or taking work calls outside of work hours. It also means not bringing work home with you.
  • Take breaks. It is important to take breaks throughout the day, both at work and at home. This will help you to recharge and avoid burnout.
  • Delegate. If you are feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to others. This will free up your time so that you can focus on the things that are most important to you.
  • Take care of yourself. It is important to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally. This means eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep. It also means taking time for yourself to relax and de-stress.
  • Find a job that you love. If you are unhappy in your job, it is going to be difficult to find a work-life balance. If you can find a job that you love, you will be more likely to be happy and fulfilled.

Achieving work-life balance is a lifelong journey. Consequently, you may never really attain it. And that’s Ok. The path is both energizing and tiring. You will be challenged to say NO (often) or even enticed to quit.

But if you are willing to put in the effort, you can find a way to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Lifestyle changes equal better results.

Case in point, Mrs. Napoleon was able to add her entire family to your life’s passion. Ensuring that Black fathers are represented. As a mom, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the day-to-day. However, it’s important to make time for you to express yourself.

While writing a book might not be your cup of tea, you can choose from a myriad of hobbies to turn into something more.
