TFG is back to help you with your discernment to move you toward high vibrations.

Today, we have our guest Jay Stephens from My Wealth Journey, LLC. We discussed low-vibration social media coaches, discernment, and learning through digital spaces. This post-pandemic world is emotionally grueling. Take a step back to recenter. Find balance while working on your future.

Don’t become a devoted follower, only to realize that you spent a lot of money and haven’t moved in ages.

With help from Jay Stephens (of Rich Like My Melanin), we discussed low-vibration social media coaches, discernment, and learning.

Why Did We Center on Discernment?

Discernment is the ability to judge well. In the age of social media gurus and influencers, you really need to guard against financial predators. Especially if you are already struggling with money.

Everyone will find themselves in a financial pickle one day. It’s OK to ask for help. But you can’t get desperate enough to accept anyone. People to look out for in this order include:

  • Lifestyle Pimps – They are all over social media. They often start off as an expert or non-expert in one industry but are merely selling aesthetics. Usually followed by statements like “do you want to live this way,” or “do you wish you have (insert material item)?
  • The High Credential Professional – They have the degree that most people covet i.e. Lawyer, Accountant, or Doctor but it’s pretty nebulous what they actually do.
  • The Non-Certified – pretends they are experts but they have no degrees and they often speak “street.” They often say they are trying to make the complicated information relatable.
  • Always Selling! – They read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and listen to Les Brown constantly. These are the folks that secretly want to be the next Grant Cardone while Grant Cardone secretly wishes to be someone richer. They will sell just about anything, even if it’s toxic. Everything to them is either an Asset or a Liability. They are definitely looking at you as a source of passive income and an increase in their cash flow.

Prime Target for Scammers?

While millions of US seniors fall prey to scams and fraud every year, most of it is Healthcare and Insurance fraud. Unfortunately, modern fraudsters have pivoted for long-term gains using social media. It’s all done through the weaponization of likes.

“More than 95,000 people reported about $770 million in losses to fraud initiated on social media platforms in 2021,” Anderson, K. B., To Whom Do Victims of Mass-Market Consumer Fraud Complain? (May 2021).

The prime target for these social media characters is 1. Poor, 2. Minority, and 3. Women.

Being a Black woman makes your prime real estate for all the above. If you don’t have great discernment, it will be easy to manipulate you.

This manipulation can even take years. Considered yourself as a primed audience, who has been convinced that being independent.

As s low-cost way to reach billions, social media allows anyone to create a fake persona or a caricature. Armed with the tools to fine-tune their approach, they study would reactions and give you more of the same. In fact, most scams use your algorithm against you.

All this to say, watch your wallet.

Wait what’s the show all about?

The Financial Griot is a play on two words (Finance + Griot) that hold significance in closing the wealth gap while embracing our differences. We tell the stories that others don’t. Stories about growth, opportunity, and embracing changes. Beyond that, we talk about Finances. Specifically, how to become Financially literate, incorporate actionable steps, and ultimately build generational wealth.

Can you imagine being a Millionaire in 20 years or less? Yeah, it’s possible. 80% of millionaires are the first generation. That means they didn’t come from wealth. We teach you how. Join a community of subscribers that welcome a fresh take on money.

It’s even more important during a time of high inflation. You need to be financially free. We can’t undersell that value.
