We are back with another episode, all about Wealth through Faith.

Today we have a guest, Oluwadamilola Oguntoyinbo, a full-time entrepreneur and the host of the Wealth in Christ Show Podcast. He discusses his journey of finding his purpose with faith and finances. While this discussion is centered on the Christian faith; the messages are universal.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 offers divine instructions for the wealthy among us, still applicable today. The passage reads: “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Somewhere in 2019, society lost itself in all matters of “New.” The Pandemic offered an unexpected slow down, in a way that brought introspection. Lean into it.

Faith, Money and a Balanced Approach

There are roughly 2,350 verses concerning money in the Bible.

That’s almost twice as many verses about faith and prayer combined. Nearly 15% of everything Jesus spoke about related to money and possessions. Check out these financial verses:

  • A wise man saves for the future – Proverbs 21:20
  • Money little by little grow – Proverbs 13:11
  • Ability to produce wealth – Deuteronomy 8:18
  • Diligent hands bring wealth – Proverbs 10:4
  • All hard work leads to profit – Proverbs 14:23
  • Steady plotting brings prosperity – Proverbs 21:5
  • Sow generously and reap generously – 2 Corinthians 9:6
  • Rich in all things, generous on all occasions – 2 Corinthians 9:11
  • Greedy man brings trouble to his family – Proverbs 15:27
  • Can’t serve two masters – Matthew 6:24
  • The Unmerciful Servant – Matthew 18:23-35
  • The Parable of the Talents – Matthew 25:14-30
  • The Workers in the Vineyard – Matthew 20:1-16
  • The Friend in Need – Luke 11:5-8
  • The Good Samaritan – Luke 10:30-37
  • The Moneylender – Luke 7:41-43
  • The Owner of a House – Matthew 13:52
  • The Growing Seed – Mark 4:26-29
  • The Kernel of Wheat – John 12:24
  • The Mustard Seed – Matthew 13:31-32; Mark 4:30-32; Luke 13:18-19
  • The Yeast – Matthew 13:33 ; Luke 13:20-21
  • The Lost Coin – Luke 15:8-10

Here are a few proverbs about wealth and faith:

  • Proverbs 23:5 Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
  • Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
  • 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
  • Luke 16:10-12 Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?  And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
  • Proverbs 28:20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
  • Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

About us and our faith:

The Financial Griot is a play on two words (Finance + Griot) that hold significance in closing the wealth gap while embracing our stories. We all write stories with our choices and our words. As such, we actively choose to speak words of power and faith in the process.

It’s ok to feel challenged and disheartened. However, try not to love faith especially in hard times. That’s when you need it most. Besides that’s where the best stories are written, against all odds.
