On this special episode, the Ladies of the Turnt 30 podcast drop in for a joint conversation and it gets contentious. With one guy on the panel, will he hold the line or join the consensus.

The topic du jour, “Being Single by Choice.” While some could argue that you can be living your life based on your own trajectory, Lawrence stated that most are simply single because “you weren’t chosen.”

Eeesh, writing that sounded harsh.

However it’s a great opportunity to get to know the Turn-t 30 crew and their journey through adulthood.

On a serious note is Single-by-Choice even a thing?

Single people are often branded with the moniker of not having been luck with love, lonely and extremely unhappy. But for many women in 2022, being single is becoming a conscious choice. Some of these ladies are saying that they feel liberate from servitude and expectation.

Living without a partner can have a number of benefits while being very costly. The biggest cost are in maintaining friendships. According to Bella DePaulo, an academic affiliate of psychological and brain sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara, single people have more friends than those in relationships.

Ana Vakos, writer for of a Conscious Rethink listed out 8 benefits of being single in this day and age. See the top benefits below:

  1. More Freedom in the sense of time. You can be more adventurous and spontaneous.
  2. You don’t have the worries that come with being in a relationship
  3. You’re not stuck in an unhappy relationship, especially as it relates to personal safety. According the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, domestic violence cases increased by 25-33 percent globally in 2020. The trend increased in 2021 as well.

She also chaired 10 challenges of being single. See the top challenges below:

  1. The feeling of loneliness and isolation with an increase in body dysmorphia. According to Ashish Sarangi in an article titled Video Conferencing Dysmorphia: Assessment of Pandemic-Related Body Dysmorphia and Implications for the Post-lockdown Era, people are becoming more conscious of their appearance. There is increased focus on body appearance and cosmetic procedures to fix minor defects. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons saw a 15% reduction in body cosmetic procedures but an increase in nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, and facelift.
  2. People really want to have kids and feel that they are missing their window. The USDA puts the cost of raising a child from birth to age 18 at $233,610 for a middle-income family (married with two kids) — around $12,980 per year. It’s a tall order for most to bare while single.
  3. You don’t have the intimacy that comes with a romantic relationship. If you are experiencing a drop in libido, the main culprit is stress and anxiety. Our eating and lifestyle habits changed and so goes the excitement.
