Why It’s Important to Travel and Never Limit Your Destination in Life
From Boston, Massachusetts to Seville, Spain, the TFG crew is back with another travel short. Just a great discussion about traveling and family with our special guest Tammy Terrell, which challenged us to think differently about where we are going.
To quote the viral IG reel, “You are not about to Miami and Atlanta Me to Death.“

Just Highly Recommended Travel
First of all, You Don’t Need to Travel. Just Highly Recommended. So much so, National Geographic thinks that travel should be considered an essential human activity. Unlike the title suggests, you don’t want to add another mandate checklist to your life. Nor do we want to force you into another way to spend.
Social media cranked traveling to a fever pitch in 2019. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, we would have seen annual expenses balloon to over $10,000. Most of that was just for pictures and more outfits. Lifestyle expenditures aren’t traveling per se.
There is something more profound about taking a trip to a location where you researched for months or even years. Lawrence, being an overachiever, adds in studying culture and the language before he gets there. Others are going in search of identity or history. There is so much to see and truly experience outside of social media norms.
Often those things aren’t as expensive and the food is better. Turns out, less than 40 percent of Americans travel for leisure. Bet if you try it, you will be part of that 40 percent for a lifetime.
The Important part of travel in this day and age
In the episode, we covered one very important segment. If you don’t have the funds, you don’t have to do it all by next year. It took Lawrence over 4 years to go to Brazil and two more years to travel through Europe. Flying from place to place costs money, and it’s OK to pace how we get there.
Additionally, don’t feel pressured to go into debt to see the world.
There are tons of unexplored areas in a 2-hour radius of you. Explore those first. Getting to know thriving communities near you. Learn to dance salsa, bachata, or zouk. Participate in spoken word poetry. Or try to find day trips from your city to somewhere new.
The goal is to decide not to be stuck within a four-wall prison of your own mind. The sky is the limit. And finally, be careful about mixing travel types. Not everyone is up for an adventure hike or ready to dive into an art museum.
Travel beyond a 2-3 hour radius
The Financial Griot Podcast crew grew up in South Florida but didn’t stop there. We ventured to South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. What did we find?
Stories and lots of them. This is the reason why this podcast exists. We tell the stories that others don’t. Stories about growth, opportunity, and embracing changes. Beyond that, we talk about Finances. Specifically, how to become Financially literate, incorporate actionable steps, and ultimately build generational wealth.
Contrary to popular belief, you can find your voice along your journey while building a sustainable future. It will not require you to become indebted to do so. But, it will be more enriching than you can anticipate. Unfortunately, we know a lot of people that limited their destination in life thus robbing them of the fullness of life.
Don’t let that be you.
