In Defense of Stress
โThere are times when we stop, we sit still. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.โ
James Carroll
Stress is part of the human experience. We cannot divorce the struggle from growth. However, high stress can lead to serious illness, communication issues, a decline of coping mechanisms or worse. You might feel down today but struggles don’t last always. Here are a few calming quotes:
- โBreath is the power behind all thingsโฆ. I breathe in and know that good things will happen.โ โTao Porchon-Lynch
- โSimply let experience take place very freely, so that your open heart is suffused with the tenderness of true compassion.โ โTsoknyi Rinpoche
- โDoing something that is productive is a great way to alleviate emotional stress. Get your mind doing something that is productive.โ โZiggy Marley

Dealing with Financial Stress during/beyond a Pandemic
- Contextualize the problem and realize that nothing is permanent. Keep it in the moment and trying not to carry trauma to the next moment and the next.
- Let go of what you cannot control. The illusion of control is a massive stress point. You can plan but to be honest, all plans change. Aim to be flexible. “Just do the best you can. Anything outside of that is not worth worrying about.”
- Cultivate peace and happiness within.
- Practice mindfulness and self-care. Mindfulness meditation and anxiety-reducing exercises can help curb acute feelings of stress and fear.
- Talk to someone and talk with someone. Don’t minimize the potential you have and the impact you have on your friends and family.
