How to Find Your Voice with Toastmasters ft. Tammy Terrell
Your inner voice is powerful. It can tell you to run further and do more, or it can tell you to shrink.
This episode of the Financial Griot is extremely special. Two out of three of the crew are here, and we have an amazing guest and transformative speaker, Tammy Herrell [Instagram: @TerrellTammy12]. She shares her personal story about evolving within Toastmasters, finding her voice through hardships, and becoming a better person on the other side.
This is about the journey of self-discovery and self-expression. In the end, you might catch a glimpse of the kind of life you are supposed to have. Your authentic voice is also the connective thread in the fabric of the universe. The best part is that it can wake up others.
If you listen closely, there is a part that I almost teared up a bit. Why? I know what is like to have a voice and not have any form of expression. In some households, kids were taught to be seen and not heard. Those types of instruction don’t help in a world where you have to speak up.
Definitely tune into the episode and inversely take in our feedback.

The power of your words
Finding your voice is a journey, not a destination. It is an ongoing process of self-discovery and self-expression. But it is a journey that is well worth taking.
When you find your voice, you will discover your power and your purpose. You will make a difference in the world and live a more authentic life.
A voice can tear down or it can build. In Tammy’s case, she found that her expression changed how her daughters approached the world. They were prouder and self-assured. They learned to use words to heal and speak truth to power.
Here are some additional tips for finding your voice:
- Read books and articles about finding your voice. I found Audible to be incredibly enriching since it allows you to catch a cadence and tone.
- Talk to people who have found their voice. Listen without the intent to respond. Really listen closely. Be moved.
- Take a class, do workshops, or even go to plays.
- Join a group or community of people, professionals, or service members. All in attempts to reconnect with stories. Get out there and explore.
- Practice speaking up in small ways, such as sharing your opinion in a meeting or starting a conversation with a stranger.
- Be patient if you don’t have all the words. And if that fails, write it all down. You have a voice even when it’s written.

About the Podcast and the Stories:
The Financial Griot is a play on two words (Finance + Griot) that hold significance in closing the wealth gap while embracing our differences. We believe that our voices are powerful. As such, we are recording our thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a way that is both intimate, comical, and even impactful. But these voices mean nothing without the ears to listen and the hands to do the work. This is why we always challenge you to make a change with every episode.
Beyond that, we talk about Finances. Specifically, how to become Financially literate, incorporate actionable steps, and ultimately build generational wealth.
Can you imagine being a Millionaire in 20 years or less? Yeah, it’s possible. 80% of millionaires are the first generation. That means they didn’t come from wealth. Join a community of subscribers that welcome a fresh take on money. We teach you how.
So there you have it, The Financial Griot, or TFG for short. The hosts were able to amass over $2 Million in wealth in about eight years and are on track to retire early. If you want the secrets, we will gladly share them since the opportunity is abundant and Win-Win.
