For the record, this is a trauma trigger warning for a lot of people who have dealt with childhood trauma or are still dealing with it.

Part two of our discussion on disciplining a new generation and realizing that our kids will likely face different challenges.

In this segment, Lovely Merdelus and Alainta Alcin wanted to know the story of Baby Lawrence Delva-Gonzalez.

Lawrence dives into his past and shares about his relationship with his father and the trauma that one man can have on a family and a community.

The First Stage – Isolation and Gestation

Research shows that experiencing financially-induced stress at any age can result in financial disorganization, irrational avoidance, as well as symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), like self-destructive behavior, irritability, and isolation.

Ultimately, childhood trauma from poverty and financial insecurity can result in life-long trauma which can erode not only your relationship with money, and with others but also your sense of self-worth. As an unnecessary bonus, this can have the side effect of generational trauma.

Second Stage – Transference

Generational trauma is exactly what it sounds like trauma that isn’t just experienced by one person but extends from one generation to the next. To that extent, this leads to limited scope and beliefs and an understanding of how to nurture others and grow wealth.

It (generational trauma) can be silent, covert, and undefined, surfacing through nuances and inadvertently taught or implied throughout someone’s life from an early age onward,” licensed clinical psychologist and parenting evaluator Melanie English, Ph.D., tells Health.

Finding Peace beyond Childhood Trauma

Here are seven ways to heal your childhood trauma:

  1. Acknowledge and recognize the trauma for what it is.
  2. Reclaim control.
  3. Seek support and don’t isolate yourself.
  4. Take care of your health.
  5. Learn the true meaning of acceptance and letting go
  6. Replace bad habits with good ones.
  7. Be patient with yourself.

Coping is one way however what helped Lawrence in the end, was financial literacy. Here are 5 simple ways to jump-start your wealth journey.
