It’s definitely not a break. The Financial Griot gang is back with a short. We discuss the importance of traveling and exposure, allowing the kids in our lives to gain needed experiences of lifetime value.

Keeping Kids Engaged over a Break

Here are a few ideas of how you can keep your child engaged over the spring, summer, or winter break.

  1. Sign them up for a camp. Best way to get them engaged. Though it could be price prohibitive.
  2. Have them join you in cooking or baking a fun recipe.
  3. Take them to the library. Reading challenges are fundamental to growing their vocabulary and presence. Set aside a time each day for them to read or read to them. You can even take turns with who narrates the story each day.
  4. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it at a local park. Hike and climb your way to better health. Try to explore a spot that you’ve never been to before.
  5. Visit museums or historical locations. Whether it’s art, history, or science, decide with your child which type of museum they would like to visit. Check out free or reduced-priced options.
  6. Start some arts & crafts projects. The options are endless – from drawing to painting to origami – there’s something to appeal to every child. Or even, Plant some flowers or vegetables in the garden.
  7. Participate in a 30-day fitness challenge. Mark down each exercise on a calendar to keep them accountable, and offer an incentive at the end of the challenge to keep them motivated.
  8. Play board games and card games, or Work on a puzzle together as a family.
  9. Clean out unused items in the house.
  10. Write in a journal. Provide them with prompts to get them started, and encourage your child to keep up with it as the summer continues. They could add photos to it, too.
